IDA Awards Production Enterprise Grants to 2 Alumni: Tamara Dawit (Ethiopia) with the project “Made in Ethiopia”, and Emily Mkrtichian (Armenia) with her project “There Was, There Was Not”.
“Made in Ethiopia” Co-Produced by Tamara Dawit, see three women navigate the bumpy expansion of the biggest Chinese industrial zone in Ethiopia. Ethiopia hopes Chinese investment will help make it the next factory of the world, but will a spreading civil war and other challenges derail its plans?
“There Was, There Was Not” directed Emily Mkrtichian uses visual metaphor and transformative art to explore the female dreams and desires that persist in the face of war, trauma and inequality. The film explores the inner lives of four women living in Nagorno-Karabakh, a disputed conflict zone between Armenia and Azerbaijan.
Established in 2017, the International Documentary Association’s (IDA) Enterprise Documentary Fund supports in-depth explorations of original, contemporary stories that integrate journalistic practice into the filmmaking process.
