Film Screening & Panel Conference for Beyond the Raging Sea
On Saturday 12 May 2018, a rough cut of the documentary film by Marco Orsini Beyond the Raging Sea, was screened to a large audience as a work-in-progress at the Cannes Film Festival.
The documentary film is a collaboration between DHL, UNHCR, UNDP and IEFTA, and highlights the dangers refugees face when crossing open bodies of water for safety.
With an overwhelming attendance the screening and was followed by lively debate and passionate opinions at the panel discussion. The panel consisted of the two leads of the film,Omar Samra and Omar Nour, plus Ralf Gruenert, the UNHCR Representative for France, Randa Aboul-Hosn, Country Director for the United Nations Development Program in Egypt and was moderated by journalist Sydney Levine.
Special guest and UNHCR Goodwill Ambassador Nomzamo Mbatha who attended the screening commented –
“Resilience in a time of complete desperation. What an important, necessary and strong voice to shout to the world about refugees. This story is one for centuries to come.”
Currently in the ultimate stages of film production, Marco aims to use the screening to hone the final cut using audience feedback.
