Portrait of A
Guided by an enigmatic narrator, Portrait of A weaves 22-year-old Andrea's journey into womanhood and motherhood with collective tales of resilience and self-discovery among other Roma women.
Portrait of A is a creative documentary that follows Andrea, a 22-year-old Roma immigrant and mother, over seven pivotal years in East Germany. The film combines observational documentary with artistic interpretation to capture Andrea’s life from eloping at 16, facing limited opportunities, navigating motherhood, and enduring her husband's betrayal. By blending her story with those of other Roma women, the film highlights shared challenges and resilience, breaking down stereotypes and celebrating the strength and complexity of Roma women's lives.
