In a statement the International Emerging Talent Films Association (IEFTA) said it was “deeply saddened” by the French embassy’s decision to reject visa to two Bangladeshis expected to join the Cannes Film Festival.
The Marché du Film had approved participation of all three candidates of the International Film Initiative of Bangladesh (IFIB), but the French Embassy in Dhaka denied visas for the two male applicants, ‘Malick’ and ‘Muntasir’.
The third finalist, Lubna Sharmin, has been granted visa.
IEFTA’s President Marco Orsini said the IEFTA is
“committed to the success of IFIB in Bangladesh and will continue to support filmmakers from Bangladesh”.
