“Unfortunate Fortune” awarded Mentorship Prize at GFMIs workshop for Sudanese Filmmakers

On 28 August 2022, the Global Film Media Initiative  (GFMI) presented its inaugural Sudan Film Lab under the banner: “Where Stories Count.” Founded by filmmaker, former UNHCR official, and longtime IEFTA consultant, Ragnhild Ek, GFMI is a Swedish based NGO that supports the development of film activities in developing countries.

This year, GFMI organized a workshop for Sudanese filmmakers in Khartoum and invited 12 projects to pitch to an international panel of film professionals. IEFTA’s Content & Marketing Consultant, Fred Greene offered comment, criticism and award recommendations.

On the advice of the judges and panelists, IEFTA awarded Mohamed Elsadig and his project Unfortunate Fortune its mentorship prize.Elsadig is now developing his first narrative feature with the IEFTA team.
